Ohio State Football loses four-star recruit to Notre Dame
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team was hoping to get a four-star linebacker to commit to them today. While their recruiting class is very good right now for the 2024 class, they don’t have a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball right now. The offensive talent for the class is off the charts though.
Four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Vilamu-Asa was supposed to help with that defensive talent deficit. He was between the Ohio State football program, Notre Dame, and USC as his final three. It would have helped the Buckeyes greatly had he committed to them.
Instead, Viliamu-Asa decided to go to Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman knows a thing or two about playing linebacker at a top program. It never really looked great for the Buckeyes to land Vilamu-Asa, but there was still hope within the program there might be a surprise.
Viliamu-Asa kept everything about his decision pretty close to the vest. No one knew for sure where he was going to go. But when there is no buzz coming from a recruits camp, that normally isn’t good news for the Buckeyes. That was the case this time too.
Losing him to Notre Dame isn’t ideal. You never want to lose a highly-rated recruit to a program in close proximity. But losing him to USC would have been worse considering they are about to join the Big Ten next season. After this season, who knows when the Buckeyes will play Notre Dame again?
Ohio State still has plenty of other defensive recruits that they are looking to land. There are a few five-star and four-star players that they are hoping to get and have a good shot to do so. While landing Viliamu-Asa would have been nice, it’s certainly not the end of the world.
