Ohio State Football player’s mother tragically killed
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is a tight-knit group. Everyone in the Woody supports each other through good times and bad. That building is going to need to support freshman wide receiver Carnell Tate a lot right now because his mother was just tragically killed.
Ashley Griggs, who is Tate’s mother, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning according to Chicago’s ABC 7. Four others were shot but Griggs was the only fatality. No one is currently in custody for this heinous act.
It’s extremely unfortunate that something like this happened. Tate is an incoming freshman who might get some playing time this year despite how good the other receivers are on the roster. That’s how good of a player he is. But this incident transcends football.
Tate will get all of the love and support he needs from the Ohio State football community. I’m sure Ryan Day and his staff will allow Tate to take off all the time he needs from his duties as a football player to properly grieve and get his family situation in order.
I can only hope that the terrible person that did this is brought to justice. No one should have to deal with a tragedy like this. While I mentioned that no one is currently in custody over this, I’m sure the police in Chicago are doing everything they can to find the culprit.
Our condolences go out to Tate and his family. Hopefully, he can eventually find peace after this tragic turn of events.
