3. Florida

Back in 2006, the Ohio State football team was on a roll. They were the first team to ever beat two number-two-ranked teams in the same season and were heavy favorites to do it a third time against Florida in the National Championship Game in Arizona.

We all remember how that went. After Ted Ginn Jr. returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, it was all downhill for the Buckeyes. They would score just seven more points the entire game and got trounced 41-14 in what would be the first of two consecutive losses in the National Championship Game.

Ohio State has only played Florida one other time. That was in another bowl game in 2012 that the Buckeyes lost also. That Gator Bowl is more widely known as the game that the Buckeyes decided to not forego and instead led them to get a bowl ban for the 2012 season.

That 2012 season, the Buckeyes went undefeated but couldn’t play Notre Dame for the national title because of that bowl ban. Playing in that Gator Bowl remains the biggest mistake that Gene Smith has made as Athletic Director of Ohio State.

These two teams will definitely play again at some point even though it’s not on the schedule currently. Hopefully, the Buckeyes get a better result the next time that they play. The next team on this list is actually in the same state as the Gators.
