Ohio State Football: Teams Buckeyes have never beaten
By Ryan Stano
2. Auburn
This is the first big-name program that appears on our list. Ohio State has only played the Tigers twice in program history. The first one was way back in 1917 and resulted in a tie. That’s a matchup that most people just throw out since it was back during WWI.
The second matchup was another big game that John Cooper coached in. It was on New Year’s Day in 1990 during a bowl game. It was the Hall of Fame Bowl and it showcased two teams ranked inside the top 20. Auburn was 9th and Ohio State was 20th.
It was a game that the Buckeyes choked away. They roared out to a 14-3 first half and looked like they were well on their way to producing the upset. Instead, the Tigers scored 28 unanswered points in the game and trounced the Buckeyes 31-14. It was an abysmal second-half showing by the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State football program hasn’t played the Tigers since. That doesn’t mean that won’t happen in the future. Auburn is one of those programs that teeters between contender and pretender depending on the year. There’s a chance they could face each other in a playoff game.
The next team on this list is another SEC team that the Buckeyes have never beaten.
