The Ohio State football program lost out on a five-star wide receiver recruit on Thursday when Joshisa Trader decided to choose Miami over the Buckeyes. As far as recruiting battles go, this one wasn’t as intense as Miami fans would like you to believe.

First of all, Trader wasn’t a priority for the Ohio State football team. If you take a look at their current 2024 recruiting class, they already have two five-star receivers in the class. They have both Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham. They don’t need another one.

If the Buckeyes had landed Trader it would have been nice, but they weren’t really expecting to get him. This isn’t really a loss since the Buckeyes kind of already knew where this was headed. The receiver room is also already super crowded. Adding Trader wouldn’t have helped.

That’s another reason why Ohio State fans shouldn’t feel too bad about missing out on this kid. There are other positions of need that the Buckeyes are putting more focus on anyway. Adding another receiver isn’t going to fix the secondary of defense as a whole.

I would expect Hartline to add at least one more receiver in this class. Ohio State typically takes three or four receivers in a particular class. Even though they are set to lose their top four receivers after this season, they still have plenty of depth there on the current roster.

Where the Buckeyes need depth is on the offensive line and in the secondary. That’s where they will be focusing their recruiting efforts over the next few weeks. Yes, another five-star recruit is always good to have. But losing out on Trader isn’t some massive loss.
