Ohio State football steals five-star recruit from Michigan
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has had a good run on recruiting lately. They have grabbed a quarterback and a really good player in the secondary. Now, the Buckeyes upped the ante by landing one of the highest-rated recruits in their 2024 recruiting class.
On Sunday afternoon, the Buckeyes were able to get five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott. Scott is from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. He’s rated as the third-best defensive lineman in the state and is rated as the 14th-best player overall in the country.
Scott decided that playing for Larry Johnson was just too good to pass up. He mentioned that was the main factor in his commitment. Ohio State’s main competition for Scott was TTUN. In fact, the Buckeyes were able to grab him and leave TTUN not happy.
Looking at his tape, he’s a really quick player. He can get off the line of scrimmage quick enough to knock offensive linemen off balance with his bull rush. Standing at 6’4 and 310 pounds, he has good size on the interior and can do a lot of things to terrorize the inside.
With this commitment, the Ohio State football team now has the most five-star commitments in the country for the 2024 class with four of them. They currently sit at second in the recruiting rankings just behind Georgia. They also have five fewer commits than the Bulldogs so they have time to make that ground up.
Johnson showed that he can still recruit with the best of them. Even though it’s been since 2019 that he coached a truly elite defensive lineman, he still has a history of developing some of the best defensive linemen in the NFL, including Chase Young and the Bosa brothers.
Scott heading to Ohio State should only help them get more elite defensive linemen in this cycle. There will be more BOOM’s soon.
