Ohio State Football: Buckeyes could land a big BOOM on Monday
The Ohio State football team and defensive line coach Larry Johnson is in prime position to land a major recruit tomorrow.
The Ohio State football program will be on notice tomorrow when a top player from its recruiting board will be giving his verbal commitment. Defensive end Marquise Lightfoot, from Kenwood Academy in Chicago, will be committing on Monday.
The four-star, top-100 national player is a top target for defensive line Larry Johnson, who currently does not have a single commit in the 2024 class thus far. 247Sports gave a crystal ball prediction to Ohio State, so the Buckeyes seem to be in prime position to gain Lightfoot’s commitment tomorrow.
The 6-5, 220-pound pass rusher is listed as the No. 6 edge player and No. 67 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He would give Johnson the versatility needed at end with excellent quickness coming off the edge.
Lightfoot gave a final six of Ohio State, Miami, USC, Georgia, Illinois and Alabama. He recently was in Columbus last month for an official visit and said this, via Eleven Warriors:
"“Larry Johnson, I truly believe he’s not just selling me a dream, I have no doubt if I go down there and put in the work, then I’ll no doubt become one of his projects that’s he worked on like Chase Young, Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa.”"
Lightfoot had a monster high school season last year in which he recorded nine sacks, 122 tackles, and three fumble recoveries. He is a high-motor, high-energy player that should be able to come into Columbus and compete right away for the two-deep.
Hopefully, the Buckeyes can get Lightfoot on board tomorrow and kick off the month of July strong on the recruiting front. The Buckeyes expect many defensive commits over the next couple of months as things will really start to heat up for the final few spots of the 2024 recruiting class.
