There is a new street name in Delaware County, Ohio honoring former Ohio State football player in the Dimitrious Stanley. Alpine Drive, located on the east side of the county, is now officially known as Dimitrious Stanley Way. Jessica, Stanley’s wife, requested the change with the Delaware County Board of Commissioners in a letter this past spring after her late husband passed away from a battle with cancer on February 9.
“A dedicated member of society, Dimitrious’ passion in life was to bring more joy and contagious laughter wherever he went,” Jessica wrote in a letter to the board. “His contribution to family, friends, and civic duty was insurmountable. He rarely turned down a request to volunteer to speak or donate his time and talents. He knew no strangers.”
On April, 20 the board met and held a public hearing regarding Jessica’s request. A motion was submitted to accept the change and passed. The official change took place Saturday, July 1 and now Dimitrious joins the like of Woody Hayes and other former Buckeye greats to have a road, street, or highway named after him.
Stanley’s passion and courage were contagious and inspiring. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2019, Stanley attacked the disease like he had all obstacles in his life.
Now Delaware County residents can continue to be reminded of Stanley’s courage and be inspired every time they drive down Dimitrious Stanley Way. Ohio State football fans will certainly always remember how good Stanley was. That’s something that will never be forgotten.
