The Ohio State football team has one of the best home atmospheres in all of college football. Where does it rank within the Big Ten?

The Big Ten conference is known for good football and excellent fanbases, with the Ohio State football team having one of the best. This had us wondering what the top atmospheres within the Big Ten conference were.

This is a hard list to configure because one must factor in not only the fanbase but the stadium itself and how difficult it can be for opposing teams to play there. The Big Ten is home to many great stadiums and fans, so we’re sure to leave some people unhappy.

But that’s what makes college football so great. Everyone team has their own dedicated fans and especially in the Big Ten, historic stadiums that have awesome atmospheres. Here is our top five list for best atmospheres within the Big Ten.

Kinnick Stadium, named after Nile Kinnick, who won the 1939 Heisman Trophy as a Hawkeye and who bravely gave his life in WWII, is one of the most difficult places to play in all of college football. Ohio State saw that firsthand in 2018 when a vastly inferior opponent beat the brakes off the Urban Meyer-led Buckeyes 55-24.

Built in 1929, and with just under a 70,000-seat capacity, this stadium brings the juice on gameday. It boasts a crazy loud student section that stretches endzone to endzone on the opponent’s sideline and for big games and the crowd organizes a striped pattern color scheme that looks awesome on game day.

But a new tradition within the stadium might just be one of my favorites in all of sports. The Iowa Wave at the end of the first quarter has fans from within the stadium turn and wave towards the top floors of the Stead’s Children’s Hospital, having the kids feel part of gameday. Really cool.
