The Ohio State football program has had much success recruiting Glenville High School in Cleveland over the years. The 2024 class might be the biggest haul yet.

The Ohio State football team and head Ryan Day tapped into the famed Glenville pipeline once again.  Four-star tight end Damarion Witten and four-star top-50 national corner Bryce West gave their verbal commitments over the weekend.

Witten and West join linebacker Arvell Reese from last year’s recruiting class to make it three former Glenville High School football players to track down I-71 and play for the home-state Buckeyes.

It’s great to see Ryan Day and recruiting coordinator Mark Pantoni keep this existing relationship alive and well. It’s one that Jim Tressel started back in the day with the Tarblooders’ famed Ohio high school coach, Ted Ginn Sr., that has produced the likes of Ted Ginn Jr., Troy Smith, Cardale Jones, Donte Whitner, Marshon Lattimore, and Christian Bryant amongst many others. Those are some massive names that live in Buckeye infamy.

Witten was a highly sought-after tight end that eventually chose Ohio State over the likes of Kentucky, Miami, and Texas. He was a very nice recruiting win for first-year tight ends coach, Keenan Baily, who will for the first time in a while have two tight ends committed in one class.

Bryce West was maybe the most important recruit to have given his verbal thus far this recruiting cycle.  Michigan tried hard to put a stop to the Glenville pipeline, and they put out the full-court press on West. But in the end, cornerbacks coach Tim Walton got the job done, securing an in-state player who has five-star potential.

It was extremely important for Ryan Day and his staff to get back to what works for Ohio State on the recruiting front. Lock in the best Ohio prospects and secure its existing relationships with these top Ohio high school programs like they have done so far with Cleveland St. Edwards (Devantae and Deontae Armstrong) and now with Glenville (Bryce West and Damarion Witten).

Hopefully, this Ohio State- Glenville connection continues for a long time to come.
