Ohio State Football All-Time Jim Tressel team, Wide Receiver: Santonio Holmes

Some people forget Santonio Holmes‘ Ohio State football career. Everyone remembers the catch he made in the Super Bowl for the Steelers that made him Super Bowl MVP, but he was pretty darn good with the Buckeyes before he ever got to the NFL.

Holmes had an impact in the three years he was used on the team. He had 140 catches for 2,295 yards and 25 touchdowns in his career. He was also a pretty good return specialist and had a punt return for a touchdown in the 2004 season when Tressel used two punt returners at once.

I’m not really sure why Holmes gets overlooked in the Tressel era because his numbers are great. He had some big plays in big games too. Perhaps it’s because he never had a defining catch like the other two receivers on this list had, but he was still a big threat on the field.

After his Ohio State career was over, he was a first-round pick by the Steelers. As I mentioned before, he is a Super Bowl MVP for his performance against the Cardinals in 2008. He ended up playing in the NFL for nine seasons with three different teams.

The next receiver on this list was actually a teammate of Holmes for most of his Ohio State football career.
