Ohio State Football All-Time Jim Tressel team, Special Teams

Of all the position groups on this all-time team, this was the easiest group to assemble. There were clear-cut winners in all of these positions. Here is the list:

K: Mike Nugent

P: B.J. Sander

KR/PR: Ted Ginn Jr.

Mike Nugent is the best kicker in Ohio State history. He was super clutch and always seemed to make big kicks when he needed to. Not only was he accurate, but he had a huge leg too. He was so good that he was a second-round pick in the NFL Draft. He was a two-time consensus All-American and won the Lou Groza Award for best kicker in 2004.

B.J. Sander, Nugent’s teammate, only started one season for the Buckeyes. Sander did win the national title in 2002 but didn’t start until 2003. No matter. He ended up winning the Ray Guy Award for the best punter in the country that season. He’s still the only Buckeye to do that.

The most dangerous return man in Ohio State history has to be Ted Ginn Jr. His value was so high as a returner that I didn’t want to list him as a receiver. Everyone remembers his punt return for a touchdown against TTUN in 2004. He also returned the opening kickoff in the National Championship Game in against Florida for a touchdown. Ginn was electric with the ball in his hands.
