Ohio State Football: Ryan Day betting on St. Clair’s potential
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team got a commitment for the 2025 recruiting class last night after quarterback Tavien St. Clair committed to the Buckeyes. St. Clair is a three-star prospect from Bellefontaine, Ohio. St. Clair becomes the second commitment for Ohio State in that class.
A three-star prospect is a lower-rated recruit than Ryan Day typically goes for at this position. He has done wonders with the quarterbacks that he has worked with since he joined the Ohio State football program. He’s clearly betting on his ability to develop talent with St. Clair.
Day is betting on St. Clair’s potential as opposed to what he is now. He has good size for the position at 6’3.5 and 210 pounds. He also completed over 70% of his passes last season. Day has also seen him at numerous camps over the Spring and Summer and clearly liked what he saw.
I don’t think St. Clair is one of the best quarterbacks in his class right now. I have questions about the level of competition he’s facing as well. Bellefontaine isn’t exactly in the state’s best conference. But I do think St. Clair will get better this season and next.
By the time he does get on campus, he could be very good. I still think the Buckeyes would be smart to try to take another quarterback in 2025, but St. Clair is someone who is willing to work hard to improve. That’s something that Day loves.
I have no idea what St. Clair’s ranking will end up being by the time Signing Day rolls around in 2025. I’m also not sure if he stays committed for that long. We’ve seen countless examples of guys committing early to school only for them to change their minds and go somewhere else.
What I do know is that if anyone can mine a diamond in the rough at quarterback, it’s Ryan Day.
