Every season has a defining moment. Whether it’s good or bad, there is one moment that sticks in everyone’s mind. For Ohio State football fans, some of those moments have been rather painful in the last two seasons after having the season not go as planned.

For me, the defining moment of last season wasn’t the missed field goal against Georgia. It was sitting in the Shoe watching TTUN plant the flag at midfield. That was the lowest moment in the rivalry that I can ever remember because of how dominant the Buckeyes have been in that game for the last 20 years.

Not all defining moments are bad. My defining moment for the 2018 season was watching Ohio State kick the crap out of TTUN. In 2014, it’s Ezekiel Elliott running through the heart of Alabama’s defense. So what could the defining moment of Ohio State’s 2023 be?

I think whether it’s good or bad it will come in The Game. The Ohio State football team is trying to avoid a third-straight loss to Michigan. Short of winning a national championship regardless of the outcome of that game, Buckeye fans will remember 2023 for that game.

We’ll see what happens at the end of November, but it will be the toughest game by far on Ohio State’s schedule. It’s at Michigan this year which does them no favors. I have to be honest, I don’t feel great about the prospects of them winning that game right now.

This is the first time I’ve felt that way about The Game before a season since I can remember. Perhaps that’s my defining moment of the 2023 season. Michigan has finally allowed doubt to creep into my mind. I don’t like it one bit and I hope Ohio State puts an end to that line of thinking for good.
