Ohio State Football: Buckeyes can’t have the same injuries
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had a rash of injuries they suffered last season. Not only did they have a lot of injuries as a team, but they were to key players that the Buckeyes needed out on the field. It was pretty much a nightmare scenario for them.
TreVeyon Henderson, Miyan Williams, Evan Pryor, Julian Fleming, and Matt Jones were just a few of the players to have injuries that affected how much they could get on the field. In Jones’ case, he wasn’t nearly as effective as he could have been because of his injury.
You could say that those injuries were fluky, but they can’t happen again. Ohio State needs all of these guys at full strength if they are going to win a national championship. That comes down to Mickey Marotti and his offseason program, which needs to improve.
Keeping these guys healthy and effective is a big key for the Ohio State football program. They have the talent to win it all. They just need the health and the consistency to get it done.
The running back injuries were certainly a big problem. At one point, the Buckeyes didn’t have a healthy running back. They had to use Xavier Johnson and Chip Trayanum as emergency backs. If things go as planned, neither one of them should need to be used as a back this season.
Health is a key for a lot of teams around the country. But for Ohio State, they need it to hit their ceiling. They needed it against Georgia and didn’t quite have enough to beat them. They hope that changes in 2023.
