Ohio State Football: Three teams fans want to have a home-and-home series with
As the dog days of summer come, we have the chance to have some fun as football season approaches. Today we are going to be looking at three teams Ohio State football fans would love to play!
This is just a fun article, nothing said here will happen. This is just what I would want as a fan of Ohio State. Feel free to discuss what teams you would want the Ohio State football team to play in the future, now here are our guidelines.
The only rules are that they are not on a future schedule. This means that Alabama will not be on here, because they already have a home and home scheduled! These will be ones that are not scheduled for the future. Now onto the list, we will first start with honorable mentions.
Honorable Mention: Ohio State vs Auburn
Two programs with a lot of history, this would be a great home-and-home series. Auburn is described as one of the friendliness places in the country. They have produced a lot of NFL talent, and the Bryan Harsin era may have put a dent into their on-field play. They seem to be right back into the swing of things with Hugh Freeze.
Auburn and Ohio State have played just twice according to Winsipedia these two historic programs have played just twice, with the series being 0-1-1 with Ohio State trailing the series. They last played in 1990 in Tampa, Florida with Auburn winning 31-14. Ohio State and Auburn tied in 1917 when they played in Montgomery, Alabama.
It has been too long since these two have played, and it is time they do with a respective home and home series.
Honorable Mention: Ohio State football vs Tennessee
These two schools have played once before, with Tennessee winning 20-14. This game occurred in Orlando, Florida. Ohio State and Tennessee are some of the best football programs out there. Tennessee had been struggling with its program’s stability but seems to have finally found the right coach.
Their offense is very interesting and is fun to watch. They have become a pass-happy offense under Coach Josh Heupel. Ohio State has had its fair share of great passers itself. Josh Heupel vs Ryan Day, two of the smartest offensive minds in the sport? Sign me up. Buckeye fans would travel well to Rocky Top.
Number 3: Ohio State football vs Florida State
The Seminoles of Florida State hold a 3-0 record versus Ohio State all time. They last played in 1998, with Bobby Bowden’s squad defeating Ohio State 31-14. After Jimbo Fisher left the Seminoles, they hit rock bottom. But they now seem to be finding their footing back into the national spotlight.
Ohio State has been waiting for an opportunity to defeat Florida State. It is crazy that these two have only played three times. Buckeye fans would travel well to Tallahassee and we are sure Seminole fans would make the trip up to Columbus. Ohio State fans I have spoken with sure haven’t forgotten about Florida State and would like a chance at revenge.
Number 2: Ohio State football vs Clemson
These two have been in some wars in the past ten years. However, it all started back in 1978, with the infamous Woody Hayes punch. Hayes would never coach again after punching a Clemson player. These two wouldn’t face again until 2014 when the Clemson Tigers won 40-35. Clemson then won in 2016 31-0, and in 2019 off a heartbreaking loss 29-23. Both of those losses occurred in the College Football Playoff.
However, Ohio State would get their revenge for the heartbreak the next season when they smashed Clemson, 49-28 in the Sugar Bowl. Clemson leads the all-time series, 4-1.
Clemson would definitely want to play this home-and-home because they would want a chance to avenge that loss they took to the Buckeyes. Ohio State fans and Clemson fans still argue on social media, so it wouldn’t be too strange for these two to face off.
Number 1: Ohio State football vs LSU
Ohio State and LSU are considered two of the best programs in the country. These two programs have faced three times, with the series being tied 1-1-1. They first faced off in 1987 in Baton Rouge, where it ended in a tie. They then came back and played in Columbus the next year where Ohio State won 36-33.
But LSU got the most important victory in 2008 when they beat Ohio State for the national title, 38-24. Ever since these programs have not faced. They have come close via bowl games, but these two fanbases are fantastic and we would love to see Ohio State make a trip to Death Valley, and see LSU come up to Ohio Stadium.
With Brian Kelly taking over LSU and bringing LSU back toward the title contention area, we think this would be the number one series to make.
Have other ideas? Let us know! Like we said this article is just fun and opinionated so we would love to hear what you have to say!
