The Ohio State football team is ready to go on a run in recruiting. Here is the latest on defensive recruits.

The Ohio State football program got a nice recruiting win yesterday when Jaylen McClain, a four-star safety from New Jersey, committed to the Buckeyes. McClain is the 14th member of the Ohio State 2024 class and is the third defensive player to commit. However, we should start to see things roll this summer on the defensive side of the ball.

Top on that list is five-star edge rusher and top-10 national player Elijah Rushing of Tuscon, Arizona. The Buckeyes are squarely in the mix for Rushing as is he due for an Ohio State official visit this summer.

The Buckeyes are on his short list of potential schools along with Arizona, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Oregon. This would be a massive get for Larry Johnson, who hasn’t produced a five-star end since J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer back in 2021.

The Buckeyes should also start to see the secondary gain some recruits this summer as both four-star, top-100 Ohio corners Aaron Scott and Bryce West could end the suspense and commit to the Bucks this summer. Both are seen as heavy Ohio State leans, but Michigan still lurks as potential suiters for them.

Another corner that could commit soon is Terhyon Nichols of Withrow High School outside of Cincinnati. He was offered recently by the coaching staff and all the momentum has swung in the Buckeyes’ favor since. Michigan, Penn State, Cincinnati, and Pitt still are in the mix, but this battle is Ohio State’s to lose.

Lastly, Ohio State and defensive line coach Larry Johnson have a huge official visit coming up on June 23rd when five-star defensive tackle, Justin Scott, makes his way to Columbus. The Chicagoland area native recently narrowed his top five to Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, and Georgia. The Buckeyes have a great opportunity to make a lasting impression on Scott and he ponders his future over the summer.

dark. Next. Not having PSU as a rival is a joke

It was great to see Ohio State get things going in defensive recruiting yesterday with the commitment of McClain. Hopefully, that momentum continues into a massive summer haul for the Buckeye defense.
