These ex-Ohio State football players will have the best rookie years
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program had several players drafted in April. Three of them went in the first round too, showing how good the top-end talent for the Buckeyes was last season. Now, OTA’s have started and the rookies are getting used to their new teams.
Which of them will have the best rookie seasons? I think the guy who has the best chance at a really good rookie year is Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Despite my mixed feelings on how he approached last season, he is still an incredible talent. Not just that, he got drafted into a good situation in Seattle.
Smith-Njigba is the best route-runner in this rookie class. He also has two established receivers on either side of him, so he should have a really good rookie year because he won’t be getting all of the attention. It will be a little like he had it when he played for the Ohio State football program.
Another rookie that I think is going to have a good season is Paris Johnson Jr. I think he will personally have a good season and should be able to play well at left tackle for the Cardinals. I don’t think that will translate to many wins, but that’s because of other players on that roster.
Johnson Jr. is a franchise left tackle that should be playing in the NFL for a long time. He should be really good this season even though he will block for a backup quarterback for half of the season. He’s only going to get better with more reps as well.
Those two rookies are the guys I see making a great immediate impact. C.J. Stroud will be good, but it might be rough this year. He doesn’t have a lot of talent to work with around him. I think he will be excellent in a couple of years though.
