Is it time that the Ohio State football team and Brian Hartline start to worry about its prized 2024 recruit looking to flip?

The Ohio State football team and Brian Hartline have been crushing its receiver recruiting over the past few years. And with as much draft and NFL success that its former players have had, who can blame these recruits for lining up out the door at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to get in?

Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 receiver in the 2024 class and No. 2 overall player might be the most highly anticipated recruit of them all. With freakish skills and excellent hands, Smith could represent Hartline’s greatest victory as a recruiter and talent developer.

But while he committed to the Buckeyes last December, Smith is still going through the recruiting process at an unusually high level for a player that gave his verbal.Last week fans freaked out when he went to Athens to visit the Georgia program. I wasn’t too worked up as it seemed like he was just attending the school with his friends for a visit. But a recent picture with him wearing Georgia gear raises my eyebrows a bit.

It’s a bit concerning, to say the least, that a player who is committed to the Buckeye program, and one that has been a vocal leader within the class, would actually sport the gear of a school that’s actively trying to flip him.

And once more, he’s not done taking official visits. While he does have one lined up for Columbus on June 9th, he’s also scheduled to take a visit to Florida State, Florida, and Penn State as well this summer.

Smith has every right in the world to continue his recruiting process. The kid isn’t even 18 years old yet. But then again, I’m not sure why he would give his verbal months ago and continue with his official visits and rock other schools’ gear.

I’m not going as far as to say that Smith is going to flip. But I most certainly am going to be cautious in assuming that he’s a lock for the 24′ class.
