Ohio State Football: Top 3 QB’s Buckeyes will face in 2023
The Ohio State football team will face off with some top quarterback talent in 2023. Here are the top three.
The Big Ten has not been known for its quarterback play like the Ohio State football program is. But recent recruiting and transfer wins within the conference have brought that level of play up a notch and Ohio State needs to be ready for them in 2023.
There are a few very good quarterbacks who did not make this list, which speaks to the level of competition that the Buckeyes will face this season. Players like Wisconsin’s Tanner Mordecai and Western Kentucky’s Austin Reed both threw for massive numbers last season but did not make the final cut for this list. Here are the top three quarterbacks that Ohio State will see in 2023.
No. 3: Drew Allar, Penn State
The Nittany Lions expect big things from its prized five-star recruit in 2023 after seeing plenty of playing time as a true freshman last year. This kid has everything you want in a quarterback. He has a rocket of an arm, very good accuracy, and displayed some excellent poise and maturity for playing a such a young stage in his career.
He should absolutely make Penn State relevant on the national scene in 2023 and will be a big test for this Buckeye defense on October 21st in Columbus. And with being from just up 71 in Medina, Allar is going to want to put on a show that day.
No. 2: Sam Hartman, Notre Dame
The senior transfer from Wake Forest was already one of College Football’s best quarterbacks last season and by joining the Irish in 2023, he should have some more weapons at his disposal. Throwing for 3,701 yards and 38 touchdowns last season, Hartman will be a very big test early on in the Buckeye schedule for this newly re-vamped secondary.
Make no mistake, Hartman chose to enroll at Notre Dame over some other prolific schools that wanted his services. He surely thinks that he’s this missing link between Notre Dame and the College Football Playoffs in 2023.
No. 1: J.J. McCarthy, Michigan
Are the other quarterbacks on this list better passers? probably. Are they better winners? No chance. McCarthy has proven himself to be a gamer, regardless of what his stats say. And by beating Ohio State in two consecutive seasons, McCarthy has a chance in 2023 to live in Michigan infamy by beating their archrival three times during his career.
If Ohio State plays well though, none of these quarterbacks should beat them.
