Ohio State basketball: Seth Towns to play an 8th college season
By Ryan Stano
I remember when the Ohio State basketball team got Seth Towns in the transfer portal. He had previously been the Ivy League Player of the Year while playing for Harvard back in the 2017-18 season. In that season, he averaged 16 points a game and shot 44% from three.
He then missed the next two seasons because of injuries and got a medical redshirt. Towns then decided to transfer back home to play for the Buckeyes in 2020-21. He averaged just 3.8 points per game and played just over 10 minutes. He wasn’t a factor at all.
That was the last time he’s played basketball. He missed all of last year with a back injury and seemed to be done playing college basketball. Now, at the age of 25, Towns has entered the transfer portal to play college basketball somewhere else.
I can’t believe that he is trying to do this. What’s wild is that this would be his 8th season of college. What’s even wilder is that he technically still has two more years of eligibility left because of the COVID year and getting a medical redshirt a year ago.
I don’t know if this is a good idea for him. Towns is clearly injury-prone and stepped away from the Ohio State basketball program for a reason. I worry about his quality of life if he suffers another injury to his knees or his back. I think he should just move on and live his life without basketball.
Towns clearly has other plans. I hope he’s able to prove me wrong and contribute to a program elsewhere. It’s unclear what program would take him or even if he’s medically cleared to play right now. I just want what’s best for him and his health.
I wish things had worked out differently in Columbus. I wish him the best of luck moving forward.
