WR: Devin Smith

If you wanted to throw a deep ball and have someone come down with it, Devin Smith was your man. He was one of the best deep ball catchers I’ve ever seen come through Ohio State. He had some huge catches in big games in that 2014 national championship run.

Smith had three deep touchdown catches in the Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin. He also caught another deep touchdown against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Every time Ohio State wanted to take a shot deep down the field, they dialed up his number.

Smith had great speed that allowed him to get off the line of scrimmage in a hurry. Once he’d beaten his defender down the field, he had excellent eyes to be able to track the ball in the air. He also was athletic enough to be able to adjust his body to bring down contested catches.

It’s a shame that injuries prevented Smith from being able to showcase these talents in the NFL. He tore his ACL multiple times in the pros and his NFL career is likely over. In any case, Ohio State football fans will forever remember him for his ability to catch big touchdowns.

Our final receiver on this team played for Meyer for just one season but certainly made his mark with the Buckeyes.
