Ohio State Football: Who’s the best team in College Football right now?

With the offseason in full swing for the Ohio State football program, we take a look at who might just be the best team in college football this upcoming season.

The Ohio State football team is coming off a great Spring full of hope and promise for the 2023 season. With a loaded team at the skill positions on offense and a vastly improved defense. the Buckeyes look the make some noise in 2023.

But alas there is a bunch of competition for the No. 1 team spot. For the Buckeyes, I believe they are a top-three team entering 2023 but it would be hard to rank them No. 1 based on the uncertainty at quarterback and on the offensive line. If they can have those two areas figured out by the Notre Dame game, then this team has a legit shot at winning a title in 2023.

In reality, the conversation on who is the No. 1 team is between Michigan and Georgia. For the Michigan side of the conversation, it’s because they are returning a majority of their roster. J.J. McCarthy looks to build on a very solid season from a year ago while the Wolverines also possess the best one-two punch in the country at the running back position in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.

Their offensive line is rebuilt and looks pretty solid from what we saw during the Michigan Spring game. And while the Wolverines lost some talent on the defensive line, they always seem to be able to replenish it with new talent. Also, sophomore corner Will Johnson might be a sneaky pick as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

As for Georgia, they are most certainly in the conversation based on being the two-time returning national champion. They also have the best coach in college football right now in Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs have lost a ton of talent on defense over the past two years, but they always seem to be able to replace it.

On offense, the Bulldogs have a new offensive coordinator in Mike Bobo and will be starting a new quarterback, most likely Brock Vandagriff, the former five-star recruit. While Georgia is very likely to replenish and reload, I have to give the top team in the country status to Michigan, as painful as it is to say.

But the great thing for Ohio State and its fans is that they will get their shot at them in November. The Wolverines have another cupcake schedule, so they are likely to be undefeated heading into it. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can turn the table on Michigan this time around.
