Ohio State football: Avery Henry’s cancer is in remission
By Ryan Stano
A few months ago, Ohio State football player Avery Henry announced that he had cancer. It was unclear whether or not he would be able to keep playing football, especially this upcoming season. That was the furthest thing from his mind, and understandably so.
Henry was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, which is essentially bone cancer. He was diagnosed towards the end of last season in January. The offensive lineman could have been fighting for a starting job this year. with three offensive linemen now in the NFL.
Well, he still might have the opportunity to do so because Henry has fantastic news. He announced on social media that he was found to be cancer free a couple of weeks ago.
That’s absolutely fantastic news! I’m glad that Henry has been able to win his fight against cancer. He mentioned that he still has four more treatments left. After that, we’ll see if he’s able to return to some sort of normalcy with his life. I’m sure he’s looking forward to that.
It’s entirely too early to talk about him resuming his football career. I’m not a doctor, but I would assume that once those four treatments are done that he could be cleared for football activities. My guess is that he still sits out this season and ends up redshirting.
I’m so happy for Henry and his family and I can’t wait to see him back out on the field for the Ohio State football team.
