The Ohio State football team grabbed another player out of the transfer portal yesterday. That brings the total number of players they’ve had transfer into the program to eight. According to 247Sports, all of them were at least three-star grades in the portal.

But just how good will these guys be? Ohio State already is bringing in a top-five recruiting class full of freshmen. Not many of those are going to play this year. These eight guys from the portal chose the Buckeyes because they think they can contribute right away.

First off, there are three guys that should play immediately. Those three guys are Davison Igbinosun, Ja’Had Carter, and Tywone Malone. Igbinosun and Carter will likely start in the secondary while Malone should get rotational minutes as a defensive tackle.

Two other guys have a shot to earn playing time this year, both are offensive linemen. Josh Simmons and Victor Cutler could fight for some playing time along the offensive line. I tend to think they will both be backups this year, but you never know what could happen in the Fall.

Lorenzo Styles, brother of Sonny Styles, is switching positions. Because of that, he’s not likely to play at all this season. He needs to learn the system before he has a shot to get out on the field as a defensive back. Tristan Gebbia, a quarterback, also won’t play unless it’s garbage time. He’s in Columbus because he thinks the Ohio State football program can turn him into a coach.

The only player who may not play at all during his time with the Buckeyes is John Ferlmann, the long-snapper who came in. We’ll see on that front. Everyone else could be a contributor sooner rather than later for this Ohio State team.

Grade: B+

I give this transfer class a B+. There are no dynamite studs that came in like a Justin Fields or even a Jonah Jackson. Igbinosun has a shot to turn into that, but he’s not on that kind of level right now. Everyone the Buckeyes got is solid, but unspectacular. That’s not a bad thing though.

I really hope all of these guys can help contribute to winning games because that’s all that matters.
