Ohio State Football: Buckeyes get defensive tackle transfer
By Ryan Stano
Well, I guess I was wrong. I thought that the Ohio State Football team was finished adding players from the transfer portal. They have already added two members of the secondary and an offensive lineman to the fold, as well as a long snapper.
That’s not enough players to bring in apparently. The Buckeyes have also landed Tywone Malone, a defensive tackle from Ole Miss. He played on the baseball team for the Rebels as well. It’s unclear whether or not he will do the same while at Ohio State.
Malone becomes the latest addition to the Ohio State Football team’s defense. Malone had 10 tackles and a sack last year while playing for the Rebels. He redshirted in 2021 after playing just a couple of games, so he comes into Columbus with three years of eligibility remaining.
Malone is a big boy, standing at 6’4 and 300 pounds. He’s someone that can plug holes up the middle of the field to help stop the run. Coming out of Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey, he was a four-star recruit before he committed to Ole Miss in 2021.
Being a former four-star recruit, Malone certainly has talent. He just needs an opportunity for more playing time. Looking at the Buckeyes’ depth chart at defensive tackle, he should slide into the rotation nicely. He won’t start or anything, but he’ll certainly get snaps.
Now that they have Malone, I’d be shocked if they continued adding any more players from the transfer portal. Malone fills the last semi-need for the Buckeyes’ current roster. Now that it has been addressed, the team should be done filling out the roster.
Even if Malone doesn’t play a bunch this season, he should next year. I’m very intrigued by his game. I’m interested to see what his ceiling is.
