Ohio State Football likely done adding transfers
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has already added quite a few players from the transfer portal since last season ended. They’ve used the portal to upgrade the secondary and the offensive line, both of which are big areas of need heading into this season.
The portal window is about to close for Spring. Could the Buckeyes add any more players before it does? It’s highly unlikely. Looking at the scholarship allotment for this upcoming season, the Ohio State football program already has too many kids. Some need to leave or come off scholarship.
Ryan Day has never had a lot of players transfer out of his program since he took over. In today’s day and age with the portal, if a player doesn’t see an immediate path towards significant playing time, they usually bolt somewhere that can give them that.
There are a few players on Ohio State’s roster that could probably benefit from going elsewhere. Some guys won’t be seeing playing time within the next couple of seasons. Maybe they don’t know it yet, or maybe they want to wait it out. In either case, Day might have to have a few tough conversations.
Looking at who’s left in the portal, I doubt the Buckeyes would want to make any more moves anyway. They have filled the most important needs at safety, cornerback, and tackle. Now they just need to get these guys into the strength and conditioning program to help them improve.
I’m very interested to see if these transfers can make an immediate impact. They all have good skill sets. It’s up to the coaches to now put these players in the best possible position to succeed. Hopefully, they can do that and that will show up in the form of the Buckeyes winning a lot of games.
