Ohio State Football: Dawand Jones selected by Browns
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has had some great players already selected in this draft. They are the first program in college football history to have 90 first-round picks. Friday during the second and third rounds, they were expecting to have a few more great players selected.
Dawand Jones was one of those players. He is a big guy at 6’8 and 360 pounds. Yet, he moves with such ease at such a big size. He’s going to be a really good player early in the NFL and can immediately start at the right tackle position, although maybe not left tackle.
Unfortunately, he had to wait until today to have his name called. Jones likely slipped because of concerns over his weight.
His slide is finally over though. He has been taken by the Cleveland Browns so he gets to stay in the state of Ohio. While being a fourth-round pick might not be glamorous, this could end up being a good thing for him in the long run.
Jones will now have a chip on his shoulder heading into the NFL. He will have a lot to prove on order to earn playing time. He’s going to have to show the coaches that he has a commitment to keep his weight in check. Being in shape has to be his top priority.
This former Buckeye has all the talent in the world to be an eventual starter. He just has to put the work in to get to that place. I’m looking forward to his journey.
