The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is officially over. There were three Ohio State football players that were taken on Thursday night. C.J. Stroud, Paris Johnson Jr., and Jaxon Smith-Njigba all found NFL teams to call home. Which of them was drafted into the best situation?

Looking at how the rosters are set up, I would say it’s clearly Jaxon Smith-Njigba. JSN gets to go to a franchise that just made the playoffs and has a quarterback that just made the Pro Bowl. Not only that, but he has two established weapons on the outside of him.

With him playing the slot, he can get more balls thrown his way because teams will be focused on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. JSN should have an extremely productive year as a rookie because of that. His team is also in the best position to win of the three Buckeyes taken.

Houston is nowhere close to competing even after having the second and third picks last night. Stroud will need time to hit his ceiling and get a roster around him that is competent. He doesn’t have a lot of playmakers around him yet so that will take time.

Johnson Jr. is protecting a quarterback that is injury-prone and will miss at least the first half of the season. The Cardinals are not making the playoffs this year. Quite frankly, their roster might be one of the most bleak rosters in all of the NFL. They will also need time to turn things around.

There’s a good chance that JSN competes for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year this season, following in Garrett Wilson’s footsteps. Chris Olave finished second just behind Wilson for that award last season too. Both of those guys say JSN is better.
