Ohio State Football: Paris Johnson Jr. goes 6th overall to Arizona
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program had a great start to the 2023 NFL Draft. They started by having C.J. Stroud go second overall to the Houston Texans. After that, it was unclear when Paris Johnson Jr. would go, but we knew he was going to be the next Buckeye taken.
It turned out that he didn’t have to wait too long to get drafted. Arizona traded down from 3 and then traded back up to 6 to get him. He was the number one tackle coming into the draft and he was drafted as such. Now, he will be the left tackle for the Arizona Cardinals.
Johnson Jr. is now the second member of his family to be drafted by the Cardinals because they also drafted his dad. He should be the day 1 starter for the Cardinals. He has all of the tools that you need in order to be a franchise left tackle. Quite frankly, he has since high school.
Johnson Jr. was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and he was great for the Ohio State football team immediately. He’s versatile too because he started out at guard before moving to left tackle this past year. He’s a great player to protect Kyler Murray.
It will be interesting to see how he is able to get even better at the next level. He’s a big, strong guy that can move laterally very well. He does a great job of forcing defenders to go too wide so that they can’t get the quarterback. I would expect him to continue to do that in Arizona.
I can’t wait to see how well he does in the NFL!
