Ohio State Football: Momentum gaining for player to be a top-3 pick
The Ohio State football team might have two top-three selections in tonight’s NFL draft. Paris Johnson Jr’s stock is rising.
The Ohio State football team might have a big night for its former players. Up to four Buckeyes could get picked in tonight’s first round of the NFL draft but it’s one player in particular who is gaining momentum at the right time.
Offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. is moving up draft boards, and some believe he could be selected as high as third overall. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said that Kyler Murray is in love with the idea of having Paris Johnson on his offensive line and Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer tweeted out that Johnson is believed to be higher on NFL personal draft boards than the media is letting on.
This would be big news for Buckeye nation as they could have two top-three overall picks tonight between Johnson and quarterback C.J. Stroud. It’s also worth mentioning that many believe Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best receiver in this draft class, making a case that Ohio State could have three top-10 selections tonight.
I believe that Johnson has proven to be the best tackle in this draft class. He had a great Combine and word is that he has been very impressive in team interviews. While it seems like Arizona would love to add Johnson at No. 3 overall, it would be hard for them to pass on Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson. It’s going to be very interesting to see what they do if Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud go one-two tonight.
It’s a shame that Johnson only started one season at left tackle at Ohio State. The Buckeyes had a ton of talented tackles during Johnson’s tenure between himself, Thayer Munford, Nicholas Petite-Frere, and Dewand Jones. Now all of them are gone and the Buckeyes might not have a starting tackle currently on its roster.
It’s going to be fun watching the NFL draft tonight to see where all the great Buckeyes wind up.
