There are countless examples of Ohio State football players getting paid huge money once they get into the NFL. The work they put in and the coaching they get in Columbus really prepares them for the next level. We have another example of that happening now.

DaVon Hamilton, a former Buckeye defensive tackle, has just signed a three-year $34.5 million extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hamilton is coming off a career year for the Jaguars where he had 56 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Hamilton plays a position that doesn’t get a lot of love. His just is just to plug up the middle and get offensive linemen to double-team him so others on the defense can make plays. It’s a thankless job, but the Jaguars clearly recognized his worth and compensated him for it.

Hamilton was with the Ohio State football for five years but redshirted his first year in 2015. His best year was his final season in 2019 when he had 28 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and a fumble recovery. He made all kinds of plays for that great Buckeye defense.

This is just the latest example of a Buckeye getting paid at the next level after showing his NFL team just how good he can be. I always liked Hamilton because of his work ethic. He was, and still is, a guy that works incredibly hard on his game. He truly wants to be great.

While I don’t love that he’ll be staying in the AFC South as a Colts fan, he’s still a really good player that deserves every cent of that contract. He’s still just 26 years old so he’s just approaching his prime. I’d expect him to get better during the duration of this contract.
