9. Howard “Hopalong” Cassady

Have you ever looked at the numbers that are up in Ohio Stadium? Those numbers are reserved for true Ohio State legends that do it all and win Heisman Trophies. That’s exactly what Hopalong Cassady did for the Buckeyes when he played for them back in the 1950s.

Cassady played for Ohio State from 1952-55. In those seasons, he helped the Buckeyes beat TTUN three times, including a 21-7 victory when the Buckeyes were ranked number one in the country. That’s also the season that Cassady won the national championship with the Bucks.

Cassady won the Heisman Trophy in his senior season in 1955 and helped Ohio State win The Game in a 17-0 shutout. He also played defensive back for the Buckeyes and never had a single pass completed on him in his four years. Talk about being a lockdown defender!

The thing that made Michigan fans hate Cassady is the fact that he was the face of a national championship team that was far better than TTUN. He was able to dominate them on the field both offensively and defensively, which is a rare feat.

The next player on our list is someone who just started one game against TTUN, but boy did he kill them in that one contest.
