The Ohio State football team is in prime position to have an all-time great offense in 2023. Can Harrison Jr. and Egbuka make history?

The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day are no strangers to making history when it comes to offense. Seen as one of the best offensive programs in the country since Day took over play-calling duties in 2017, Ohio State has had its fair share of record-breaking performances.

At the top of that list is the 2021 Ohio State wide receivers room where the Buckeyes had three players with over 900 yards receiving in Chris Olave, Garett Wilson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Two of those players, Wilson and JSN, had over 1,000 yards receiving.

But can this Ohio State offense produce more of the same in 2023? The answer could be something that we haven’t ever seen in Columbus before. The Buckeyes have two clearcut great receivers in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka. In fact, it’s likely that both of them wind up becoming first-round NFL draft picks in 2024 with the former likely going in the top five.

With a new quarterback to break in, probably Kyle McCord, Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline are going to want to get the ball in the hands of these two playmakers early and often this season to help get McCord’s confidence up.

The result of that could lead to these two Buckeye receivers having seasons like we’ve never seen before wearing the Scarlet and Gray. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if we see a season like what the LSU tandem of Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson had in 2019. Both receivers had over 1,500 yards receiving, and both had double-digit touchdown catches.

It’s also going to be hard to envision Harrison and Egbuka coming off the field unless there’s a blowout. Both receivers are head and shoulders above the next-best receivers on the roster. As long as this offensive line can hold up, there should be some eye-popping numbers in Columbus this season.
