Three players Ohio State Football should target in the transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
2. Caleb Johnson
While getting a big guy on the offensive line is great, it’d be even better to get a guy who already plays tackle. Caleb Johnson is that guy. Better yet, he played at a Power 5 program at Notre Dame and was a former four-star prospect coming out of high school.
Johnson stands at 6’7 and 295 pounds. He would likely put on some weight if the Buckeyes did decide to pursue and add him. He is someone that was in the class of 2021 so he would have a couple of years of eligibility left wherever he decides to transfer.
Tackle is by far the biggest area of need for the Buckeyes in the portal right now. The problem is that there aren’t a lot of quality guys in the portal. Johnson is the best guy who hasn’t already transferred somewhere else yet. Getting him would be huge.
Getting a Power 5 tackle like Johnson would certainly make Ryan Day feel a lot better about an offensive line that has to replace three starters. He would be able to protect whoever ends up winning the start quarterback job in the Fall.
The final guy on our list is someone that just entered the portal yesterday and actually has a family tie to the Buckeyes already.
