The Ohio State football program was not spending enough money on recruiting. We saw that when a list came out that showed that Rutgers was outspending the Buckeyes in that regard. A lot of that came down to the lack of NIL money that the Buckeyes were getting.

We wrote a lot about NIL and how the Buckeyes were lagging behind. A few more collectives have sprung up since then. Now, it seems like the collectives are getting better and are helping the Buckeyes achieve better results. They seem to be raising more money.

Ryan Day and his staff are attending more NIL events to get this money because they know it’s extremely important to get that money to get recruits. Even more important, that NIL money can be used to keep the kids currently on the roster in Columbus.

We won’t see the full results of this effort until the year is over, but it does seem like a greater effort is being put into raising NIL money. That can only mean good things for the Ohio State football program. That means getting higher-tier recruits.

Getting better recruits should equate to getting more wins as well. The more wins the Buckeyes have, the safer Day’s job is and the happier Buckeye fans are. The coaches may not like it, but this is the way of the world now. NIL is here to stay for good.

Ohio State has the number one recruiting class in the country right now. The effort from the collectives to partner with these recruits is definitely one reason why that class is doing so well right now. We’ll see if they are able to sustain that through the rest of the Summer and Fall.

Things are moving in the right direction. It’s good to see.
