Ohio State Football: 3 winners from the Spring Game
By Ryan Stano
3. Davison Igbinosun
The transfer from Ole Miss is needed to help fix the secondary issues that the Ohio State football team has had to deal with over the last three seasons. Davison Igbinosun may not have jumped out on the screen on Saturday, but he got a lot of playing time.
Igbinosun was one of the players who got playing time with both the first unit and the second unit. He got a lot of snaps at cornerback. He is someone who is going to need to play a big part in shutting down opposing wide receivers. That’s what he did at Ole Miss.
Igbinosun didn’t have an interception on Saturday, but he didn’t allow big plays. That’s going to be the key for this secondary. The big plays have been what’s killed this team over the past couple of seasons. Quite frankly, that’s what kept them from winning a national title last season.
It was an earth-shattering performance, but getting reps with both the first team and second team help him get more comfortable with the teammates around him that he will be playing with. It also gets him more comfortable with a brand-new defensive system to him.
Hopefully, Igbinosun will up his level of play even more when the season starts. He has a lot of talent and has the potential to be a really good corner. The Buckeyes need that play if they are going to be in contention for a national championship.
