The Ohio State football team will conduct its annual Spring Game this Saturday in Ohio Stadium. Here are three things to look out for.

The Ohio State football team will be back in action this Saturday in Ohio Stadium for the annual Spring Game. The Buckeyes have many kinks to work out before the start of fall camp. This game is meant to be a barometer of how things have gone this Spring in practices and often can give us insight into who is currently ahead in positional battles.

Two years ago, it was pretty obvious that C.J. Stroud had a firm grasp on the quarterback position over Jack Miller and true freshman Kyle McCord. In 2018, Dwayne Haskins made some great throws to secure his positional battle win over future Heisman trophy winner Joe Burrow. What can we see during this year’s Spring Game?

No. 3: Is this Kyle McCord’s QB position to lose?

Ryan Day has been saying all Spring that this is a true battle for the starting quarterback position, and it could lead into fall camp. By all accounts, however, this appears to be Kyle McCord’s job to lose. And if he goes out and throws a couple of picks on Saturday afternoon, that could open the door for the highly talented Devin Brown to step through.

No. 2: How is the secondary shaping up?

Ryan Day is going to want to throw the ball around on Saturday to see how his quarterbacks handle the pressure. This will be a great opportunity to see how this re-vamped secondary is shaping up. Transfer corner Davison Igbinosun is having a great Spring and it will be nice to see how he fits into this cornerback’s rotation. It’s also not known if we will see the new transfer safety from Syracuse, Ja’Had Carter who was injured earlier in Spring camp.

No. 1: All eyes are on the offensive line.

This biggest question mark on this Buckeye roster probably lies within its offensive line. Three new starters will have to step up and emerge if this Ohio State team wants to get back to the College Football Playoffs. Josh Fryar appears to be secure at left tackle while Carson Hinzman seems to have the center position locked down.

But the real battle will be at right tackle between Zen Michalski and Tegra Tshabola. It will be interesting to see how quickly this line can find all of its starters and gel together before the beginning of the 2023 season.

Next. Even at OSU, QB recruiting is a winding road. dark

This will be one of the more important Spring Games that I can remember. Between an open quarterback battle, and so much uncertainty in the secondary and offensive line, the Ohio State football team has some serious work to do this Saturday in Columbus. I’ll be in attendance keeping you updated if my three kids will allow me.
