Ohio State Women’s basketball: Taylor Mikesell drafted to Indiana Fever
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State women’s basketball team had a great season this past year. They were able to make the Elite Eight and were able to take down UConn and keep them from going to the Final Four for the first time since 2007. It was a great year for the Buckeyes.
One of the key players for the Ohio State women’s basketball team was Taylor Mikesell. She was the sharpshooter that the Buckeyes needed to help provide instant offense. Tonight, she realized her dream of being drafted into the WNBA. She was taken by the Indiana Fever with the first pick in the second round.
Mikesell averaged 17.2 points per game and shot over 41% from three this past season for the Buckeyes. What hurt her is that she had to be the focal point of the Buckeyes’ offense while Jacy Sheldon was hurt, so she got a lot of defensive attention.
Miksell goes to an Indiana Fever team that had the number one overall pick in the draft as well. Even though she was the first pick in the second round, it will be hard work for her to make the team. That roster is young but already has some good pieces there, including former Buckeye Kelsey Mitchell.
I hope that Miksell is able to have a long and productive WNBA career. When you can shoot the ball as well as she does, there will be room for her on a roster for a long time. I’ll be following her at the next level and hopefully she can win a lot of games too.
