Ohio State Football: Buckeyes need more defensive commits
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team got another commitment last night after Air Noland decided to choose the Buckeyes over a host of other big-time programs. Noland is yet another four-star prospect for the 2024 class that the Buckeyes have landed.
In the 2024 class, the Buckeyes have nine total commitments. They have the fourth-best recruiting class in the country right now. But those commitments are almost all on one side of the ball. Of the nine commitments they have right now, eight of them are on offense.
The only defensive commitment they have is from linebacker Garrett Stover, who is Cade Stover’s younger brother. Getting a lot of offensive commits is good for sure, but I have no doubt that Ryan Day would like to get some diversity in his recruiting class.
Ohio State needs some more defensive recruits. They have some visiting campus next weekend when the Spring Game is going on, so that might change soon. The defense is the side of the ball that the Buckeyes need to improve the most and that has been the case for a few years now.
I am a little surprised that Jim Knowles and his defensive staff haven’t been able to secure more commitments for this class yet. Knowles is known as a good recruiter so he should be able to get some top talent into Columbus. That hasn’t been the case yet.
The defense is still in improvement mode. They took some strides last year during the regular season, especially early in the year. But the Ohio State football team cost themselves a national title because the defense couldn’t hold up late against Georgia. More talent being brought in would help fix that.
We’ll let you know once any recruits make their decision. Next weekend is a weekend to watch on that front for sure.
