Ohio State football NFL Draft bust No. 2: Damon Arnette

2020 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 19
Las Vegas Raiders, 2020-2021

Full disclosure, I never like Damon Arnette even when he was with the Ohio State football program. He always celebrated like he made more plays than he did. He was a good player, but he acted like he was the second coming of Deion Sanders or something.

Arnette was the 19th overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2020 NFL Draft. That was considered a huge reach at the time, even by the biggest Buckeye fan. He was considered a second-round pick by most draft analysts.

Arnette was a bust almost instantly. He played 9 games in his rookie season and started 7 of them. He had just 21 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two passes defended. He only played four games in his second year with the Raiders because of how badly he played.

Worse than that was his conduct off the field. He was released by the Raiders not even two full years into his career after a video came out of him brandishing a gun and making death threats. Since then, he’s only gotten in more trouble with the law.

His legal issues started in 2020 after he was accused of crashing into a woman on his way to practice and then leaving the scene. In 2021, he had that video issue. In 2022, he was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, concealing a firearm with no permit, and two counts of drug possession.

While those charges were eventually dropped, he still couldn’t stop getting in trouble. He was arrested again in July and charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license. No team has signed him since.

Arnette’s career is over because of his idiotic behavior off the field. Fortunately for him, the biggest bust had worse trouble with the law.
