5. Meechie Johnson

It’s always good to get a talented kid to stay in the state of Ohio. Meechie Johnson was just that coming from Cleveland. Every time he stepped out on the floor, he wasn’t afraid to take big shots. He would take, and make, some deep threes late in the shot clock.

Johnson played two seasons for the Buckeyes before leaving. While his stats don’t jump off the page, he was definitely a talented player. For reasons that still remain unclear, Holtmann just didn’t want to play him that often. Johnson decided to take his talents elsewhere.

This past season at South Carolina, he averaged 12.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 3 rebounds for the Gamecocks. He also started every game but one and played 33.3 minutes per game. It has been by far his best collegiate season. His team is actually empowering him to shoot threes as well. He averaged 7.1 attempts from deep this past year.

Johnson is someone I wanted the Buckeyes to keep. It’s hard to get guys that aren’t afraid of the moment and are confident in their offensive game at all times. I was hoping they could get someone like him for the duration of his collegiate career.

Well, there you have it! Those are how some of the Chirs Holtmann era transfers have done since they’ve left the Buckeyes. Hopefully, LeDee can be the most successful of them all and win a national title tonight.
