Ohio State basketball: How have transfers done after leaving?
By Ryan Stano
2. Luther Muhammad
Luther Muhammad was my favorite member of the 2018 recruiting class for the Ohio State basketball team. He came in with a great attitude that was a defense-first mentality. He cared more about stopping the guy he was guarding more than his own offensive game.
In his first season with the Buckeyes, he actually showed some flashes of offense. He averaged 7.6 points per game and shot 37.5% from three. He had the beginnings of a three-and-D wing. Unfortunately, that freshman year has been the high point of his basketball career.
Muhammad’s stats stayed about the same during his sophomore season with Ohio State before deciding to transfer out after the 2019-2020 season. He sat out a year and went to Arizona State where he played for the last two seasons. During this past season, in fact, he started just one game.
Now Muhammad has entered the transfer portal again. He’s looking for somewhere where he can actually get more playing time, as he just played 9.9 minutes a game this season. While the Sun Devils did make the NCAA Tournament this year, Muhammad certainly wanted more playing time.
It’s unclear where he will end up this time around in the portal. Maybe he does things like LeDee and his second time in the portal will be better for him. I still do like his style of play, but he just never quite developed a reliable jump shot.
The next player on this list was actually a teammate of his at Ohio State and Arizona State.
