Ohio State Football: Davison Igbinosun is looking like a steal
The Ohio State football team had a second scrimmage yesterday in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Transfer corner Davison Igbinosun is looking like a steal.
The Ohio State football team continues its spring practices as they had their second full scrimmage on Saturday in Columbus. With the need at cornerback so critical for this Buckeye team, it’s great to see one cornerback, in particular, stepping up.
Incoming transfer, Davison Igbinosun, formerly a freshman All-American while at Ole Miss, is looking like a player who can step right in and help this Ohio State secondary. The 6-foot-2 player has the length, size, and speed that’s coveted in the position. But it’s been his play during his short time wearing the Scarlet and Gray that’s impressing most.
During the scrimmage that the media were allowed to attend yesterday, Igbinosun picked off quarterback Kyle McCord in 7-on-7 drills and made a few nice pass break-ups later in the day. He was also seen often running with the ones so it appears that he may already be penciled in as a starter for the Buckeyes.
Igbinosun was brought in to compete for a starting job with Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock, and Jyaire Brown. If Igbinosun continues to play like this then the Ohio State football team might have just fixed its poor cornerback room from a season ago.
It wasn’t all great news on Saturday in the secondary, however. Fellow transfer, Ja’Had Carter, went down with a knee injury and had to be helped off the field by support staff. Carter, who figures to be a starter at safety for the Buckeyes, has had a nice spring camp as well.
Ryan Day had this to say after the scrimmage, via Eleven Warriors:
"“We’ll have to get it evaluated, but you hold your breath, because just don’t know how stable that knee is until (he gets further testing). It felt like it was. We’ll get it evaluated for sure, make sure we cross every T on this thing and dot every I.”"
We’ll have to wait and see following the testing to see how Carter’s knee is holding up but let’s just hope it’s nothing serious.
