The Ohio State basketball team had their worst season under Chris Holtmann by far. They didn’t finish over .500 and missed the NCAA Tournament. It was a frustrating season for everyone involved. We expected there to be some movement into the transfer portal.

Now the first domino has fallen. Eugene Brown has decided to enter the transfer portal. Brown will have two more years of eligibility left to use if he wants them. He leaves the Buckeyes after not seeing much playing time in his two seasons with the Buckeyes.

In his three seasons with the Buckeyes, he only started a total of 11 games. In his career so far, he’s averaged just 2.2 points per game. He only averaged about 11 minutes a game in his three years, so he wasn’t getting much playing time out there.

I’m not surprised at all that Brown has decided to leave. He obviously wants to go somewhere where he can get more playing time and show what he can do. Brown wasn’t going to get that opportunity in Columbus. In fact, he probably will leave the entire Big Ten.

I could see Brown going to the MAC or some other small conference. In all honesty, he didn’t show enough offensively to deserve a lot of playing time. He has to get better at making shots and creating some plays if he wants to get playing time wherever he ends up next.

This is not a loss at all for the Ohio State basketball program. The Buckeyes weren’t playing him much anyway. All this does is free up playing time for some of the freshmen coming in who might show more promise offensively. Quite frankly, Brown wasn’t that good defensively last season either.

Next. Biggest thing missing for Ohio State basketball. dark

We wish nothing but the best for Brown and hopefully, he can be more successful wherever he goes.
