Ohio State women’s basketball has a real shot for something special

The Ohio State women’s basketball team just took down UConn on Saturday afternoon. It was a game that will go down in history. The Buckeyes stopped UConn from making the Final Four for the first time since 2007. They had made it 14 straight seasons.

Instead, the Buckeyes will be moving on to the Elite 8 and will face one-seed Virginia Tech. The Hokies beat Tennessee to become the Buckeyes’ opponent. It would have been ideal if the Vols would have been able to win because Ohio State has already beaten Tennessee this season.

Even so, this Ohio State women’s basketball team has a real shot at doing something special this year. Virginia Tech is the weakest one-seed in the entire bracket. UConn was arguably the best team on this side of the bracket. Now that they are gone, the Bucks have become the favorites.

If they can win one more game, they will be in the Final Four. Once things get that deep into the tournament, teams start to believe that they can win it all. Ohio State has something more than belief though. They have talent and good coaching to get them all the way there.

With Jacy Sheldon back healthy, this team has all of the pieces that they need to win a title. With her back into the fold, the Buckeyes have a point guard that can facilitate and make shots on the offensive side of the ball. O defense, she does an amazing job with the press and gets steals.

Those two things are extremely important to this team’s success in the next game and beyond. If Taylor Mikesell can make some outside shots and Cotie McMahon continues to do what she does, the Buckeyes can actually win it all.
