The Ohio State women’s basketball team had two tough games to start their NCAA Tournament journey. They found themselves down 35-19 to 14-seed James Madison in round one but rallied to win that game. Then they found themselves playing 6-seed North Carolina.

Ohio State controlled that game early and built themselves a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter. Yet, they almost blew it because Carolina tied the game with 10 seconds left. Jacy Sheldon hit a shot to win it for the Buckeyes and send them to the Sweet 16.

Now they face the most decorated women’s basketball program in the country. While UConn isn’t the juggernaut that they were in the 2010s, they are still a really good team. The Buckeyes also no longer have the home-court advantage. They are playing this game in Seattle.

UConn is the higher-seeded team in this matchup, coming in as a 2-seed. They have only lost five games all year long. Two of those were to unranked opponents and one of them was to Maryland, which beat the Buckeyes twice this year. The Huskies are no joke.

In order to win this game, the Ohio State women’s basketball team is going to need Taylor Mikesell to shoot the ball better than she has so far in this tournament. She is shooting just 40% from the field in the first two games. She’s the player on this team that spreads out the defense, so she needs to hit her shots.

Cote McMahon is going to be big for the Buckeyes too. She is a freight train when she attacks downhill with the ball. The freshman is extremely hard to stop and is very good at finishing around the rim. There are going to have to be points in the game where she takes over.

The game is on today at 4 pm ET on ABC and the ESPN app. If the Buckeyes win, they’ll be in the Elite 8 and knocking on the door of a Final Four.
