Being a five-star recruit out of high school brings a lot of pressure. That’s especially true if you are the number one player at your position in the country as TreVeyon Henderson was. He chose the Ohio State football program coming out as the number one running back from the state of Virginia.

In his freshman season, Henderson delivered. He showed the big-play ability that made him the number-one running back in the country. By the end of the year, he had racked up 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground while accumulating another 312 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving.

Things did not go as planned in his sophomore year. After being named a Preseason First-Team All-American, Henderson struggled. He only had 571 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. He looked lost and looked like he was trying to hit the big run too often.

It was revealed late in the season that he had tried playing through a broken bone in his foot. That definitely affected his ability to plant and cut up the field. Even so, it didn’t look like anything physical was holding him back. It looked like his vision had been the issue.

Henderson is now eyeing a comeback this season to prove the doubters wrong. He’s recovering from that injury this Spring so we won’t see him in the Spring game. But once Fall rolls around, he will be full-go. He’ll need to be at his best if he wants to win the starting job back.

Miyan Williams was the best back the Buckeyes had last year. He comes back looking to be even better than he was a year ago. Dallan Hayden showed he can do some things after running for 3 touchdowns against Maryland. Ohio State also gets Evan Pryor back.

The competition will be fierce for Henderson, but he has the purest talent of any of the running backs on the Ohio State football team’s roster right now. If he is fully healthy, he should be able to assert himself as the lead back. If his vision continues to be bad though, Williams will get the bulk of the carries.
