Ohio State Football: Ryan Day still mum on starting quarterback
By Ryan Stano
Today is the first day that the Ohio State football team is back at practice since spring break started last week. Now that that’s over, the Buckeyes return to get some work in. Speaking today at practice, Ryan Day talked about a variety of things of interest.
One of the things he mentioned is that he will work with Brian Hartline to call plays in the intrasquad scrimmage the team will be having on Saturday. This will be Hartline’s first opportunity to call plays in a game setting. When asked about the starting quarterbacks, Day wasn’t quite as forthcoming.
When asked about the difference in skills between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown, Day had this to say:
Day is definitely aware that this is one of the biggest position battles in the country, just as it was in 2021 when C.J. Stroud eventually won the job. McCord now has to fight for the job for the second time in his career. This time though, he’s the favorite.
Under no circumstances will we know who the starting quarterback is when Spring ball is over. Day will definitely wait until the Fall to make that final decision once he has an entire roster on campus and they start ramping up for actual games to be played.
I still think McCord ultimately wins the job, but I’m not sold on that yet. I’m really excited to see them both play in the Spring Game in a couple of weeks so I can see them both for myself in a live-game capacity.
