The Ohio State football team has already sent two quarterbacks into the NFL since Ryan Day got to Columbus, both being first-round picks. Dwayne Haskins was the first back in the 2019 NFL Draft and Justin Fields followed suit in the 2021 Draft.

C.J. Stroud will be the third once he gets drafted in late April. He very well could be the number one overall pick. Yet, despite all of the high draft success, Ohio State quarterbacks haven’t really done well at the next level yet. Fields’ season turned around a bit last year when he started running the ball, but his passing still isn’t very good.

So how does the Ohio State football program buck this NFL QB issue? Do they change how they develop these quarterbacks? Or do they need to change something within the offense to get these guys ready to succeed at the next level? What’s the best course of action?

In my opinion, the best course of action is to continue doing what they are doing. I think each quarterback is different in how they have approached the NFL and each has gotten drafted into different situations. Stroud has a shot to be the best of them all.

The reason I think Stroud can finally buck this trend is because of the way he passes the ball. He doesn’t have as strong of an arm as either Haskins or Fields, but he is more accurate in his placement of the ball. He really gives the receiver a chance to get yards after the catch.

Not only that, but Stroud does a good job of not holding onto the ball too long and taking unnecessary sacks. That’s part of the reason Fields has struggled at the next level. Stroud is the best pure passer of these three, and that’s why I think he will succeed.
